Front/Rear Bumper System & Intelligent Perception Integration
Front and rear bumper assembly engineering design for the XPeng MONA model (originally the Didi Vinci project)

We led the structural design and engineering delivery of the front and rear bumper assemblies for the XPeng MONA model. The project focused on the precise layout and thermal management of intelligent-driving sensors (radar/camera), achieving extreme low drag through optimized cross-section structures while balancing pedestrian-protection regulations and low-cost mass-production targets.

--- Project Highlights ---
1. Intelligent perception system integration: For the mmWave radar and camera integrated in the front bumper area, we designed dedicated mounting brackets and cooling ducts to ensure the sensors’ thermal stability under high-speed conditions, while optimizing the wave-transparent window design to guarantee interference-free ADAS signals.
2. Low-drag aero optimization: Working with the aerodynamics team on multiple rounds of CFD simulation, we optimized the front lower-lip angle and rear diffuser shape to streamline underbody airflow, significantly reducing the vehicle drag coefficient and improving pure-EV range.
3. Lightweighting & cost control: While ensuring stiffness and strength, we reduced material usage through topology optimization and selected cost-effective material systems (e.g., modified PP), achieving lightweighting while meeting the OEM’s stringent cost targets.
4. Regulation validation & quality control: We designed the high-speed crash energy-absorbing block and tuned low-speed crash recovery performance for the bumper assembly to meet the latest pedestrian-protection regulations; strictly controlling parting lines and DTS (gap/flushness) to enhance exterior refinement.
